Eye Exams

Regular comprehensive eye exams are key to maintaining proper eye health. Here are the eye exams that we offer

Regular eye exams are not only for people who wear glasses or experience a lack of clear vision. Many
eye conditions do not present symptoms until the condition is in a more advanced stage. Regular eye exams can detect problems while they are still manageable.

According to the Canadian Association of Optometrists, adults 20-39 should undergo an eye
examination every 2-3 years and adults 40-65 every 2 years. Of course, this could vary based on the advice of your Optometrist, particularly if you have underlying health conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

During your appointment, we will verify your prescription and make changes as required. We will also
perform other examinations to determine overall eye health. Our Optometrists will discuss any
concerns you may have and make recommendations for maintaining eye health.

Eye examinations are also important in protecting your child’s overall health and well-being.  Some eye health issues can begin at a young age and early detection is important.  The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends that infants and toddlers undergo their first eye examination between the ages of 6 and 9 months.  Preschool children should at least one eye examination between the ages of 2 and 5 years and school age children between 6 and 19 should undergo an examination annually.

During your child’s appointment, we perform examinations to determine overall eye health.  We will also determine if your child requires corrective lenses to improve their vision, which is extremely important for academic performance.  Our Optometrists will discuss any concerns you may have about your child’s eye health and make recommendations to protect their eye health.

Many eye diseases, such as glaucoma, cataracts and macular degeneration are prevalent in Seniors.  It is important that seniors have eye examinations more frequently.  The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends that seniors have an eye examination annually.  Of course, this could vary based on the advice of your Optometrist, particularly if you have underlying health conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

Ask us about transition lenses

these adaptive lenses turn dark when you step outdoors and are transparent when you are indoors. Transition lenses optimize the amount of light that reaches your eyes, going beyond vision correction, to reduce glare, eye fatigue and strain, for more effortless sight. They also block 100% UVA/B light.

When it comes to sunglasses, we strongly recommend polarized lenses. These lenses reduce reflected glare from flat surfaces such as long roads or the top of a lake. Colours look more vibrant, contrast and visual clarity is improved while reducing the need to squint in bright light.

Do you spend a lot of time on the computer?

If you’re someone that spends a significant amount of time on a device such as laptops, tablets and desktop computers, you might have heard of blue light blocking lenses. Blue light is the portion of the visible light spectrum with the highest energy & shortest wavelengths. Since our eyes are not able to filter out blue light too well, it can get to the retina and has been shown to increase the risk of macular degeneration & contribute to digital eye strain. Our brain associates blue light with daytime-so being exposed to blue light from screens makes it more difficult to fall asleep at night. We offer premium blue light blocking lenses, that can be adapted to any prescription-computer glasses or your progressives.
